If you idle a car for 5 minutes straight, it gets worse gas mileage than if you floor it while moving for 5 minutes straight.

Actually they’d be the same, because you wouldn’t have gone anywhere.

Floor it while moving ? You would definitely go somewhere.

it’d be worse, running at higher rpms wil naturally burn more fuel.

MPG = D(distance)/G(gallons of gas consumed)
If D = zero miles, 0/X will always be zero. Idling, WOT, it doesn’t matter. Anything you do with your car that doesn’t involve movement but does involve a running engine will always result in 0 MPG.

I should change my post to say floor it while moving.

Yup, math works like that.

I didn’t assume you meant otherwise.

Let’s get this straight. Maybe you should rephrase this by saying any car that is running at idle, (for any length of time) gets less MPG than any car traveling at full throttle. Do you really think nobody else know this already?

You are totally 100% incorrect.

He edited it. The way he had it written before made it sound like they were both parked. In that case, your fuel usage would be different, but your miles per gallon would still be 0.

I tried to figure out my mileage if I let it idle WITH THE ENGINE OFF!
My calculator didn’t like that.
